Two Life Flighted from Crash in Salem Township Columbiana County Ohio

Salem Township, Ohio - Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post 15 are investigating a one vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at approximately 5:00 AM. A 2005 Mazda was traveling northeast on Old State Route 344, just north of Franklin Square. The Mazda lost control on the snowy roadway and traveled off the left side of the Highway striking a guardrail and a cement retaining wall.

The driver of the vehicle, David Shoely, 27, of Columbiana City, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Stat Medivac to St.  Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He was not wearing his safety belt.

The rear passenger, Devin Decker, 29, of Columbiana City, also sustained serious injuries and was transported by Stat Medivac to St. Elizabeth's Health Center. He was also not wearing his safety belt.

The front seat passenger, Allison Grossen, 31, of Columbiana City, sustained minor illjuries and was transported by EMT EMS to Salem Regional Medical Center. She was wearing her safety belt.

Assisting at the scene were KLG EMS, EMT EMS and Leetonia Fire and Rescue.

Alcohol and / or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers and occupants to always wear their safety belts and drivers to reduce their speed during inclement weather,
