Serious injury Crash in
Ravenna Township on SR 14
Ravenna Township – Troopers from the Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on State Route 14 between SR 88 and SR 59. The crash happened at approximately 09:30 PM on May 23, 2018 and involved a motorcycle and a passenger car.
Vehicle #1, a 2003 Harley Davidson, was traveling northwest on SR 14. Vehicle #2, a 2006 Chrysler 300C, was attempting to turn left onto State Route 14 from the Windmill Lakes Golf Club driveway located on the northeast side of State Route 14. Vehicle #2 failed to yield from the driveway and pulled directly into the path of Vehicle #1. Vehicle #1 struck Vehicle #2 on the driver side causing the motorcycle driver to be ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of vehicle #1, Douglas Shead, age 46, of Ravenna Township, was transported to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center by Ravenna Twp. Fire Department in Serious Condition. Driver of vehicle #2, Michael Doherty, age 56, of Mogadore, Ohio refused medical treatment at the scene. He suffered non-incapacitating minor injury. Alcohol is a factor in this crash.
Ravenna Township Fire Department assisted with traffic control in and around the crash scene. State Route 14 was closed for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
