Perry Township The Canton Post of the Highway Patrol is investigating a three vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at approximately 11:17 A.M. on US 30 westbound .4 miles west of milepost 13.

Ryan Derodes, age 39 from Perrysville, Ohio was operating a 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer westbound on US30 in the right lane.

Naquan Carter, age 25 from Canton, Ohio was operating a 2003 Ford Focus westbound on US30. Julyne Hough, age 21 from Canton, Ohio was a right front passenger in Carters vehicle.

Ronal Pritchard, age 34 from Canton Ohio was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound on US30 directly behind Carters 2003 Ford Focus. Heather N. Hitchings, age 26 was a right front passenger in Pritchards vehicle.

The preliminary investigation indicates Carters 2003 Ford Focus had sustained a flat tire and Pritchard was following behind Carter in his 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier with the hazard lights flashing. Both vehicles were partially on the right berm and right lane of US30. The 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer Derodes was operating then struck the rear of the Chevrolet Cavalier forcing it into the concrete barrier off the north side of the roadway. Evidence of the crash scene suggests the Ford Focus was struck by the Chevrolet Cavalier and the Kenworth tractor trailer. All three vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Perry Township Police and Fire Department responded to the scene. Perry Township FD transported Carter and Hitchings to Aultman Hospital, Pritchard and Hough to Mercy Hospital. Carter and Hitchings had incapacitating injuries, Pritchard and Hough sustained non-incapacitating injuries. Derodes was not injured.

Undetermined at the time of reporting if the occupants of the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cavalier were wearing seatbelts. Derodes was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Ohio Department of Transportation and Canton Police Department assisted with traffic control. A section of the westbound lanes of US30 was shut down during the investigation. O.D.O.T. set up a detour routing traffic off US30 to Raff Road.

The crash currently remains under investigation. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
