Two Vehicle Fatal Crash

Plymouth Township, Ashtabula County The Ashtabula Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three vehicle crash resulting in one fatality. The crash occurred on July 1st, 2018, at approximately 2:09 PM, on Interstate Route 90 at mile post 228.

Unit #1 was an unknown year Red Volvo tractor trailer. The Volvo tractor trailer was driven by Vasil Pilipenko, 22 years old of Webster, New York. Mr. Pilipenko was not injured in the crash. A 13 year old juvenile passenger was also not injured in the crash.

Unit #2 was a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The Chevrolet Cobalt was driven by Mary Tucker, 53 years old of Rock Creek, Ohio. Mrs. Tucker was transported to Geneva Hospital and later transferred to Cleveland. The front seat passenger, Lorrena Fish, 74 years old of Rock Creek was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another 4 year old passenger also received injuries and was flown by life-flight from the scene.

Unit #3 was a 2011 Kia Sorento. The Kia Sorento was driven by Eugene Allen, 60 years old of Rock Creek, Ohio. No injuries were received by the vehicle occupants.

The preliminary investigation shows Unit #1 was traveling east on Interstate Route 90 in the left lane. Unit #2 was traveling west on Interstate Route 90 in the left lane. Unit #3 was traveling west on Interstate Route 90 in the right lane. Unit #1 had the left front tire blow out which caused Unit #1 to travel into the median. Unit #1 continued across the median and into the west bound lanes of travel. Unit #1 struck Unit #2 and continued into a guardrail. Unit #1 came to rest off the north side of the roadway and became fully engulfed in flames. Unit #2 traveled off into the median and came to rest. Unit #3 was struck by debris from the initial impact.

All occupants were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
