Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigates Crash That Closes I-77 For Several Hours.
– On January 8, 2018 at approximately 1:26 PM the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 northbound near mile post 138 in Bath Township, Summit County.
A blue, 2014 Nissan Versa, driven by Rashida Y. McWilliams, 42, of Akron, Ohio was northbound on Interstate 77 and lost control of her vehicle. She went out of her lane and struck a blue 2006 Freightliner tractor/trailer, driven by Jonathan C. Roush, 29, of Cleveland, Ohio. The truck went off the right side of the road and struck a pole supporting an overhead traffic sign, and then overturned on its right side. The traffic sign fell to the ground completely blocking all northbound lanes on Interstate 77. No other vehicles were struck when the sign fell.
The subsequent clean-up efforts to remove the sign and the overturned tractor/trailer closed the interstate for approximately 4 hours.
Bath Police and Fire Departments were on scene and assisted with traffic control.
Neither Ms. McWilliams nor Mr. Roush were injured in the crash, and seat belts were in use by both operators.
The crash remains under investigation.
